Chocolate and apple cake

    Step 1

    Preheat oven to 175°C and grease and line a base of round cake tin with baking paper.

    Step 2

    Put the caster sugar, butter and eggs into a bowl and beat well.

    Step 3

    Gradually add flour mixed with baking powder and cocoa.

    Step 4

    Stir in the grated apples and transfer into the prepared tin.

    Step 5

    Bake for approx 40-50 mins or until a skewer inserted into the middle of the cake comes out clean.

    Step 6

    Leave to cool and remove from the tin. Slice into two layers, spread the bottom layer with jam and put together again.

    Step 7

    For the icing mix together a small amount of lemon juice with some icing sugar until you get a nice thick spreadable consistency. Spread over the cake and leave to set for a few mins before serving.
